This article covers the next step many of formto need to go through whilst obtaining family temporary residency in Mexico: Formqto is often considered to be the most sensible option open to families wishing to move to Mexico.
So, this article picks up where the last one left us; with one family member with a valid temporary residency visa and the rest of family on tourist visas. This is a process for obtaining residency for a spouse and children, via the person who has already obtained residency. Just to set expectations I will try not to mince words; this particular process can be laborious, frustrating and expensive.
It may feel as if the way ahead is confusing and tangled but it can be done! Many people will tell you this is not something you should attempt to do alone, that you need to hire a lawyer or an agency to help you. We hope this list of reasons we were sent away might help you have a smoother run than we did:.
Every page must be stamped and signed. On the fingerprint appointment slip, it says exactly how the photo must be. Take this slip to your photo session and ensure the instructions are followed in, the letter. Of the four of us, two had to redo our photos because we trusted the photo shop to know what they were doing. Hair down is fine as long as forehead and ears are compeltely visible.
Go to this web page: In Merida, the INM office opens from 9: The slip is so that the bank can issue the appropriate electronic stamps, with correct names and reference numbers, for unm process.
The actual residency fee comes later. Collect gormato forms together in a big folder. You keep the originals but you may need to show them knm INM. Often, in the UK, women change their surname at marriage. Long discussions ensued where we discussed new names — Sparkle or Ninja were her favourites, the possibility of blending names was discussed but eventually, we opted to take one of our surnames for the entire family.

It was a democratic, feminist decision. However, when moving to Mexico, this means that the person who changes their name ends up with what the Mexicans consider to be a discrepancy in their paperwork: This is officially A Problem.
Here it is important to note that US and UK citizens with name change problems will find themselves in a different situation. US citizens require, according to our US friends, an affidavit from their embassy stating that the documents are all correct.
As Brits we have no consulate here so when we were sent away to deal with this issue we got right on with trying to figure out the best way to solve it. This is what we did:.
Ten days later we received an email asking us to log-in to review the status, which thankfully was successful. Go to the INM office and make an appointment for fingerprinting the whole family. Go to a photo shop that knows but requirements of INM photos, but check them too just in case see fingerprint appointment slip for details on photo requirements.
Go to a bank and pay the approx. Go to the fingerprinting appointment with kids.
The slip of paper tells you what you should have done and what to bring. Run to photo vormato to get new photos taken and run back. Then simply, go and collect the cards without kids. Time to celebrate and start counting down the days until you have to return for the annual renewal process!
I always try to write super useful articles, answering the questions I think people might have about exploring Mexico.
MexicoCassie is a labour of love. If you find my site useful and have a few spare coins to help me continue exploring and writing, I would never forget your kindness. Mexico Cassie is technically British Cassie but who cares? Currently in the process of moving one family across the ocean and back to Mexico.
My wife and I will be moving from Belize to a Mexico probably in December. We saw the list of documents to take to the consulate here in Belize to start basivo process for me obtaining temporary residency, but do any documents required throughout the process need to be notarized before we start? We were told, in the UK, to get stuff notarized ready for Mexico.
However, it was easier to get stuff notarized before leaving home for sure.
I had to send stuff back to the UK to get notarized when we realised we had missed one. That was annoying and time consuming. Used your guide for my own residency and it helped quite a bit.
I am now sponsoring my wife in-country. She applied a month ago, and they just refused her application due to some bureaucratic stuff not too dissimilar from what you outlined here — though they told her she needed to repeat the process.
Basically the question is for the people who received their temporary residency by being sponsored by a family member, what determines the start date of the validity of their residency?
Do they match it to the same date as the person who sponsored them meaning they get less than a full year? Is it 1 year from the date they entered Mexico and obtained the FMM that will be converted under this process? Is it 1 year from when they start the process at the immigration office?
Have you completed yours in mexico already? Was the refusal in Mexico? I know that our family reunification visas are not the same as the visa for my husband who got his first.
It is one year from your personal date of issue. I am retired with temporal residents Visa, arriving back in Mexico before my first year expiration. Have brought all documents for permenente, unsure of moving forward or return to visitor card.
Do you have a blog on going from temporal to permanente? Hi thanks for the question. Thanks for the response, yes I have completed mine already.
