So reading the Clan Raukaan supplement, and holy crap. I love me the idea of some cyborg space marines I mean But the entire thing just seems like one giant ‘fuck you’ to the chapter.
Like doing one analysis ever of a situation, and then providing precisely that many space marines, no matter what factors may change that demand more? And then the big reveal at the end is “Oh, the core tenant of our chapter is fucking stupid.

The flesh isn’t weak after all! Haha, we’ve all been fools”. I mean imagine if a Space Wolves supplement had the big ending reveal be along the lines of “Ya turns out we’re all secretly giant cowards.
And also don’t rukaan actually like wolves”.

To clarify, I’m not some giant Iron Hands fan. I think the idea of the chapter is cool, so picked it up for some hot cyborg action.
But the entire time reading it I was just like I mean does anyone have any explanation for this? How did they manage to fuck up “Robot-man hybrids are awesome for pages”? They fucked up the whole lore too.
They were supposed to be split into clans with elective leaders, but fight like a complete chapter all the time according to the codex. I haven’t read the Heresy books for a while but I am fairly certain that Ferrus Manus wanted to move the legion away from the heavy augmentation, and would have done so if raukaaan for his untimely death. IIRC he bemoaned the stripping away of whatever humanity Space Marines have left in order to embrace the machine and wanted his legion to return to ‘normal’ at the end of the heresey.
He even had plans to remove his living metal hands. Now I haven’t read Clan Raukaan so I’m not sure of what angle they are coming from with this, but if they are continuing Ferrus’ legacy then I think this adds character to the chapter and makes his death at the hands of Fulgrim all the more tragic. Without him they are doomed to fall into a spiral of continuous augmentation and will end up more like the Mechanicus and less like Space Marines.
